Alfreton Town v AFC Halifax Town Match Preview:

By Ryan Stewart.

The Alfreton Reds will be very keen to get some game time, following the abandonment of Saturday’s home game against Stalybridge Celtic due to the amount of water on the pitch

The Reds are still in 17th place in the table, and are currently only two points clear of the relegation-zone.

AFC Halifax Town will be arriving at the game expecting an easy victory over their opponents who have struggled in recent games to find the points needed to push themselves above the drop-zone. Halifax currently lie fifth, in the final playoff place, with games in hand on those above them.

It is the third planned date for this fixture as it has already been arranged for two other occasions. The Halifax Shaymen could only register a 0-0 draw at home to Boston United on Saturday. This draw took Halifax’s unbeaten run to eight games.

Halifax could also be making a big step towards securing a play-off spot, as a win would see them three points clear of sixth placed Stockport, and still with a game more to play.

Halifax boss, Billy Heath praised the defensive display from Boston United in their previous fixture. Matty Kosylo was unable to add to his tally of six goals in his previous seven games although he went close on a couple of occasions.

Alfreton have recently signed 22-year-old right-back Wes Atkinson on a month’s loan from Notts County. The former West Bromwich Albion youngster is expected to be in the squad for Tuesday’s game.

Life-long Halifax fan, Mathew Hirst believes that “The game should only go one way, Saturdays draw was a game in which we should have won. We had chances galore but couldn’t take them.

Alfreton might make for a tough match as they are fighting to be clear of the drop-off zone and no club in this league wants to drop any further down. We need to win to stay in the promotion zone and to make the games in hand we have count.”
