Broadcasting giant Jane Garvey brings her unique insight into equal pay at the BBC

Broadcaster Jane Garvey will be speaking about her experiences as a female presenter during Leeds Trinity University’s Journalism and Media week.

Garvey presents BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour along with Jenni Murray, and the podcast Fortunately with Fi Glover.

Her talk, entitled Power of Women in Broadcast- Presenting, Podcasts and Pay, will take place on Wednesday November 6 2019.

Garvey raised concerns earlier this year about the pay gap which still exists between genders amongst the BBC.

Darren Harper, lecturer in Radio Journalism and course leader of Sports Journalism said: “It’s extremely exciting to have Jane Garvey coming to Journalism & Media Week. Jane was the first voice heard on BBC Radio 5Live, and is a giant in the world of radio broadcasting.

“I can’t wait to hear her thoughts on radio, and how the medium has changed over the years, plus her unique insight into equal pay at the BBC.”

Garvey regularly hosts BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour which centres around the cultural topics and current debates that interest women of all ages.

Her podcast, Fortunately, takes a comedic angle on BBC’s behind-the-scenes,  and has been praised for the friendship that can be felt between the two women.

The talk will take place on Wednesday November 6, Mary Hallaway Lecture Theatre, Leeds Trinity University at 11am.
