Leeds United have been handed a major boost heading into the eagerly anticipated West Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town.

News broke last night that fan favourite Pontus Jansson will be signing on a permanent basis when his loan comes to an end in June.

The Swede has agreed a four year deal at Elland Road, much to the excitement of Leeds’ fans and he told BBC Radio Leeds that he wants to take the club back to the Premier League.

He said: “I want to take Leeds back to the Premier League. I had a feeling that Leeds would be my home and I was right.”

Jansson made his league debut in the 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield and the centre back has vowed to BBC Radio Leeds that he will help his side take all three points away from the John Smiths Stadium.

He said: “They were the first league team I played against and I want revenge.”

A win would mark are fantastic week for the former Malmo player as he scored a last minute header in Leeds’ 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers.

Head coach Garry Monk will also be buoyed by the fact that deadline day signings Modou Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza are available for the derby.

Barrow signed on loan until the end of season from Swansea City and will link back up with Monk who managed him during his time at the Liberty Stadium.

Spanish winger Pedraza signed from La Liga side Villareal till the end of the season and should Leeds be promoted to the Premier League then he can sign for £8.5 million.

Charlie Taylor will again be absent from the White’s squad as he recovers from an Achilles injury picked up in December.

Leeds will be looking to replicate their last visit to the John Smith’s Stadium as they came away victorious thanks to goals from Mirco Antenucci, Chris Wood and a stunner from Alex Mowatt.
