Four arrests made after Stanningley Bypass hit and run

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and another has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender after a 25-year-old man was killed on Stanningley Bypass.

Police are still seeking Majid Malik, 27, and Adnan Ahmed, 29, [pictured below] in connection with the fatal accident, which happened around midnight on Monday.

Detectives have also recovered the blue Volkswagen Golf which is believed to have hit James Gilbey from Bramley.

Detective Chief Inspector Elizabeth Belton, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “The recovery of these vehicles and these arrests are significant developments in the investigation.

“We are however still urgently appealing for information to trace the whereabouts of Majid Malik and Adnan Ahmed and urge anyone who knows where they are to contact us immediately.”

The car was found in Fagley Crescent, Bradford, on Tuesday night following a call from a member of the public and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. The car is currently being examined by forensics teams.

Officers have also recovered a white Audi A5 in Bingley which was believed to be travelling in convoy with the Golf at the time of the collision on Stanningley Bypass on Monday night.

Two men, aged 25 and 27, both from Bradford, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in relation to the Audi’s involvement.

Another man is being held in custody after he handed himself in to police yesterday evening.
