Roots Hall welcomes an out of form Peterborough

Phil Brown’s Southend United welcome an out of form Peterborough United in a League One clash at Roots Hall.

The Blues currently sit 15th in the league table whilst the Posh sit 7th, one point behind Oxford United with a game in hand on the team above.

Southend’s poor displays see their side with four winning efforts all season (D4, L5). A large part of their woes stem from problems with the defense, conceding 25 goals, second most in the league.

Manager Phil Brown gave an update with injuries of defender Rob Kiernan ahead of the clash:

“Rob is back from Sweden and he’s had an operation, he’s had part of his tendon shaved and he’s going to be immobilised for the next two weeks.”

Brown also mentioned the close return of experienced duo Michael Turner and Michael Kightly.

If history in an indicator, Southend may be the favoured team tonight, as they enter this contest unbeaten in their last four outings against Peterborough (D2, W2).

Peterborough United will be traveling without their 21 year old Striker Junior Morias after suffering a ruptured thigh last month. Jack Marriot appears to be the best option to score goals, given his play to start the season. The Posh do have concerns with Midfielder Michael Doughty who missed their 1-0 defeat to Gillingham with a back problem.

Grant McCann is aiming to get his side back to winning ways ahead of their recent form.

He told Sky Sports: “The rest of October is big for us now. We need nine points from three games.”
