Struggling Chesterfield aim for vital Fylde victory

Chesterfield face Fylde this weekend hoping to end a barren run of form, which has led to them not winning a game since the middle of August.

It has been a difficult season for the club having failed to win in the last 11 games. However boss Martin Allen has insisted that if they continue to put in hard work, they can restore some positivity.

He said: “We need to battle our way through it. We’ve got to show confidence and we’ve got to reduce the anxiety in the stadium.”

Chesterfield actually started the season well with three straight wins without conceding a goal. But since their 1-0 victory over Braintree on the 11th August, they have not tasted victory since and they currently sit 20th in the table after 14 games. Insiders insist that it is a crisis but there are growing concerns around the club over their horrendous run of form.

Going into the season, Chesterfield would have hoped to bounce straight back after a nightmare 17/18 campaign following on from relegation from League 1 the season prior.

They face Fylde on Saturday, who have had a very respectful start in 7th. In Danny Rowe they possess the joint second highest scorer in the division and he will be a huge threat to the Spireites. Fylde go into the game as favourites, and they will expect to get the three points to plunge Chesterfield further into the relegation mire.

Team News

Chesterfield are expected to name an unchanged side from their draw at Maidstone United. Fortune will be pushing for a start after netting the equaliser last time around against Maidstone. Fylde are also expected to name an unchanged eleven after their impressive 3-0 win against Braintree Town.
