Bradford does the Great Poppadom Challenge

Locals stuffed their faces last night hoping they could set individual records for most poppadums eaten in one-minute at the Great Poppadum Challenge in Cleckheaton.

The challenge was organised by  restaurant manager, Azhar Mahmood, 42, to raise money for the Curry Tree charity.

He said: “It’s a charity which contributes to lots of other charities. It mainly focuses on helping children, but it also helped support the victims of the floods in Pakistan in 2010.”

Seventy people took part and a grand total of 141 poppadoms were consumed in a minute.

Azhar said: “It was great to see the local community, local businesses and even school children- along with their teachers- all turn out for this great charity event.”

in a minute- that’s what we averaged it at- but no, it’s a lot harder than it looks.

“We want everyone to vote Bradford. It rightly deserves to be crowned Currry Capital for the fourth year.”

The event formed part of Bradford’s bid to be crowned Curry Capital of Britain on Monday 20 October.
