Wednesday dealt new injury blow

Midfielder Sean Clare is out for the season – but Sheffield Wednesday hope three players could be back for this weekend’s clash with Leeds.

The Owls look to draw an end to their miserable season which has been marked by 11 first team players packing into the treatment room.

Today boss Jos Luhukay revealed yet another injury. Sean Clare will miss the remaining matches after suffering an ankle injury in the draw with Bolton Wanderers.

But there was good news on the injury front. Long-term absentees Barry Bannan, Sam Hutchinson and the Dutchman Joost Van Aken could make the trip to Elland Road on Saturday.

In an interview with the BBC Radio Sheffield’s Andy Giddings, Luhukay claimed all three are in “very good shape and training 100% with the team.” Van Aken and Hutchinson both featured in a recent under 23 fixture for Wednesday. Barry Bannan should have played in an under 23 fixture this week but it was called off because of the weather.

The injury to Clare is disappointing after he broke into the first team and produced a string of headline grabbing performances, scoring a stunning goal against Aston Villa. The Owls boss described Clare’s injury as a “shock moment.” Doctors have ruled  the 21-year-old out of a return this term and will decide in the next few days if he requires surgery.

Meanwhile Jos Luhukay also had some more good news at the Press Conference, revealing that Fernando Forresteiri could return after the international break. The Sheffield Star journalist Dom Howson tweeted the news  “Foresteri will take part in full training for the first time in six months tomorrow.”
